Day 21 | My thoughts on art by Ella

Image
Hi, The boys are not here this week, and so I thought for today's blog I would talk to you about art. I love art! It is my favourite thing to do and I am lucky as I have lots of art supplies. I have sketch books, sketching pencils, water colours and pastels. I love my sketching pencils as the lead is different in each one, I have them from H's which are the lightest to B's which are the darkest. I have some shading pencils too that help when shading art work. I use how to draw books and you tube videos a lot, but while we are on lockdown my Mum has organised for our good friend Izzy to teach me art on face-time. This is her website  http://izzyfaithart.com/ . I think Izzy is really talented, she is good at art that she is going to university in September to do a degree in it. I am still trying to find my art style. I try to do realistic art, and I love drawing anime type characters. I need to practice more with my watercolours too. Art makes me feel happy and brig

Day 18 | Dance parties and scary letters

Image
Today we got a letter from the prime minister, Mum and Daddy said that every house has had it. It was all about Covid-19 and what the government are doing to try and stop it spreading. We have been told a bit about how serious it is by our parents but the letter made it very real and scary. We don't want to go back to school, or play outside if there is a chance we could make Mum poorly with it. She could get very sick. Mum and Daddy talked to us about the letter and we chatted about whether it was right for people to get fines and what all the restrictions meant. They also pointed out what Mum called the bits of hope in the letter such as thousands of doctors and nurses returning to the NHS. Mum and Daddy then used a social story to try and explain coronavirus to Henry. It was hard as he didn't really understand it. At lunch time Mum could see that we were still thinking about the letter. She said that the best thing we could do was to set it aside as we have no contro

Day 16 | Planning our garden

Image
Today we helped Mum decide what plants we should grow in the garden. We only have a small yard but mum has a book on how to grow vegetables and fruits in plant pots. One of the projects she has created for us is a plant project. The other week we chose which vegetable would be the one we grew for it. Today we counted how many plant pots would be left and then made a huge list of all our favourite fruits and vegetables. ELLA: As always we started the day with P.E. some of the exercises were a bit tricky but I gave them a go. I then decided that I'd like to wear some nice clothes. Since lockdown started I've been wearing my leggings and t-shirts most days. They are comfy but a bit boring, it felt good to wear something different. I read some of my book The School for Good and Evil, its getting really good and I was happy the character Sophie finally wants to go home. I had a break with Theo and we ate lunch and then planted some Marigold seeds. It took us ages as we planted e

Day 15 | It doesn't feel like the Easter Hols

Image
We normally love our school holidays. A week or two of just hanging out with Mum and Daddy, being able to stay up later is all really cool. But at this point we have been off school for three weeks. Yes we do learning each day, but we also have loads of free time. It's easy to get bored, or to just feel like doing nothing. Mum asked us what we wanted to do for the Easter holidays, did we want it all 'off school' or to work one week and not the other? We decided that as Theo was at his Dad's and Henry was at his Mummy's for the second week of the holidays, we would like to do some learning during week one. Mum said that was ok, but that it was going to be very laid back as she needs a break too. ELLA: Yay Joe Wickes is still doing P.E. each day. He did some new exercises today that I didn't full know how to do. It was hard but fun. After P.E. I had a shower to cool down and it was nice to change from my leggings and smelly t-shirt into jeans and a top.

4th April | We achieved our goals

We all forgot that yesterday we were supposed to be finding out whether we had managed to reach our weekly goals. So Mum said that we could do the after we had tea today. ELLA: This weekend I achieved the weekly goal that I set on the 27th March. I thought I would tell you about how I felt when I achieved my goal. My goal was to recite a poem from memory. I chose the poem Poor Old Driver by John Fitching. My mum recorded me on her phone as I recited it to her and daddy. It felt really good to be able to do my weekly goal. I felt relieved as I have been practising for a week and was worried I'd forget something or get muddled up. I was a bit worried that I wouldn't be able to remember it or I would get it wrong but I worried for nothing. It felt amazing to know I was able to do it without forgetting anything. I felt really proud of myself. I really enjoyed the experience and loved performing the poem. I now feel as if I can achieve anything as long as I put the time and

Day 14 | We laughed a lot

Image
Today was a good day with lots of laughter, let us tell you a bit more. ELLA: I enjoyed today, we did lots of work, but we giggled lots to. We started the day doing Joe Wickes in fancy dress, I dressed up as myself, and wore my PJ's. After doing P.E. I got dressed and then did lots of school work. We did a worksheet on our favourite sport, I wrote about basketball and drew a picture of a basketball. Theo and I then worked on a literacy sheet, where we read a story called The Burning Rice Field. In the story an old man burnt his rice fields to warn the villagers that something bad was about to happen. All the villagers raced to the fields and they were very angry with the old man, but when he made them turn around they saw that a Tsunami was approaching the village. If the old man hadn't burnt the rice then all the villagers would have died. Mum has printed Theo and me a workbook about mindset and so today we did a sheet from that which was our personal passport. We had to

Day 13 | A day off

Image
Hello, Today we had a day off from home-school. This was because our Mum was having a bad day health wise and needed to be able to rest, and Daddy was really busy. THEO: I have played on the computer ALL DAY!!! It was really cool as I have a sword to level up in Minecraft and so it was nice to be able to just do that. ELLA:  I decided to do some colouring, and have spent some time reading my book. Finishing the book was the monthly goal I set myself, so I'm trying to read a chapter a day. I also watched a bit of Sonic on TV with Henry. HENRY (as told to Ella & Theo): I played with my toys, I like my Incredibles toys and L.O.L boys. I dressed up as Elsa and sang lots. I watched Sonic on TV. I made the Bolognaise for tea with Daddy. It felt nice to have a day off on a Thursday but it was a little weird too! Not doing any work felt strange but Mum said we would have learnt stuff without knowing it. We're not really sure what she means but she seems happy.

Day 12 | Some thoughts on home school

Image
Hello, We thought we would talk about home school today. Like every kid in the country and lots around the world to, we are currently being home schooled because of Covid-19. Just over two weeks in we can say that home school has its positives and negatives. The hardest bit is not being able to see our friends, but we also miss our teachers, the dinner ladies and Mr D our headteacher.   Our school use an app called Class Dojo and so we have been able to watch videos Mr D has been recording and also Mr M who teaches us forest school. Henry's school don't have Class Dojo and so this week he is getting a phone call from one of his teachers, Mrs W. He is really excited about speaking to her.  The best bit is getting the extra time with Mum and Daddy, and also we get to play with our puppy Sonja lots! At the weekend Mum and our Nan turned our cellar into a play and learning zone. Its really cool and we love being able to work down there. We have a table and chairs w
