Day 12 | Some thoughts on home school
Hello,
We thought we would talk about home school today. Like every kid in the country and lots around the world to, we are currently being home schooled because of Covid-19.
Just over two weeks in we can say that home school has its positives and negatives. The hardest bit is not being able to see our friends, but we also miss our teachers, the dinner ladies and Mr D our headteacher.
Our school use an app called Class Dojo and so we have been able to watch videos Mr D has been recording and also Mr M who teaches us forest school. Henry's school don't have Class Dojo and so this week he is getting a phone call from one of his teachers, Mrs W. He is really excited about speaking to her.
The best bit is getting the extra time with Mum and Daddy, and also we get to play with our puppy Sonja lots!
At the weekend Mum and our Nan turned our cellar into a play and learning zone. Its really cool and we love being able to work down there. We have a table and chairs where we mainly work, but also a sofa to read and relax on. There's a big pinboard for us to put pictures and stuff on and we have a TV, and lots of board games, and our lego. We also have lots of boardgames and puzzles, a mini basketball hoop and a mini pool table.
Now we will tell you what kind of work we do. We start each day with P.E. by Joe Wickes (did you read yesterdays post), we then do the work that Mum has organised for us. We do some maths, with lots of timestables, we also do some literacy. But unlike school its not really set out as lessons, we do a bit and then we have a 5 or 10 minute break. We are doing a project on plants and we are going to grow our own food plant. Ella has chosen broccoli, Theo raspberries and Henry wants to grow an apple tree. We are also making a scrap book of something we love. Oh and Mum does some cooking with us each week, where we write out the recipe we have chosen and then she helps us make it.
We also don't do home school for as long as we would be at school. After P.E. we have a bit of a break and then we start learning time at 10.30. We have lunch at about 12 and have a sandwich and some chill out time and then we finish for the day at about 2pm.
The only thing we have to do after 2pm is write our blog post for the day, so that Mum has it to put on the blog by 6pm. But we get no homework and that is AWESOME!!!!
And we wear our own clothes. So yeah theres bad bits but lots more good. We can't wait to go back to school and to see our friends but home school is cool too.
Oh also we got the message above via Class Dojo from Theo's teacher and it made us all really happy. We are all waving at you Miss B and can you tell Mrs B (Ella's teacher) we are waving at her too!
