My Dad, Motorsport And Everything In Between
My Dad loves being in his garage with his Astra rally car. The last rally he did he broke down and he has never completed the Trackrod Rally without breaking something or having an off. He is 39 and loves everything about cars. He has a Ford Transit van and a Skoda Octavia vRS and a Vauxhall Astra Mk3 rally car. His rally car has only done a few rally and has a sequential gearbox and proper hydraulic handbrake. When Dad is competing or co driving he has to wear gloves, helmet, head and neck system, race suit and a balaclava. On the seats in the rally car they have their names on the seats, Dad has his on the drivers seat and Stuart Popplewell has his on the co drivers seat. Stuart reads the pace notes what helps navigate Dad through the stage.
My Dad was the first person in the history of rallying to win the Open Rally in a non Ford Escort car. His lucky number is 43 as that was the number that was on the car when he won that rally. The rally is called the Roger Albert Clark Rally. He also came third overall in the whole event.
Dad also co drivers for Stuart in his Seat Ibiza. When they rally they have a lot of funny moments like when they were at Oulton Park racing circuit near where I live, they had a big moment going passed a toilet block and a big tree and another one was when my Dad was driving at Croft racing circuit and Stuart said “Now that’s how you cross the finish line” as they went over sideways!
Dad has a small racing rig and he likes to watch YouTuber Jimmy Broadbent aka Jimmer as he does a lot of sim racing.
